高雄市前鎮區7月31日發生大氣爆，造成30人不幸罹難，逾300人受傷。國軍第一時間投入救災，盼將損害降至最低。國防部軍備局401廠12日上午開放媒體參觀，展出各種地圖繪測裝備，以及氣爆災區爆炸前後3D圖資。

在接獲氣爆救災通報後，軍備局401廠於8月1日上午派遣12人、攜帶三維雷射掃描儀、夜視鏡及熱像儀等救災偵蒐設備，編成救災支援小組，前往高雄氣爆災區繪測災區地圖。

這些圖資包括災區氣爆前與氣爆後的3D地圖，有助於國軍救災單位深入掌握災區地理資訊，其中三維雷射掃描儀每秒能繪製16萬點雲（point cloud），經過一天測量於隔天完成災區3D地圖。

陸軍八軍團指揮官何安繼進駐指揮救災、馬英九總統南下視察災區，指揮官向三軍統帥簡報也是利用401廠繪製的圖資。401廠表示，目前高雄市政府也前來協調，希望能夠提供圖資作為救災用途。
